Born in 1983 in Paris, clothing designer Joseph Altuzarra was raised by a Chinese-American mother and a French Basque father. Since he was a child he was attracted by artistic disciplines. Joseph graduated from Swarthmore College, Philadelphia, with a B.A. in Art History. Immediately after graduating, he headed to New York and interned at Marc Jacobs before his post at Proenza Schouler. Joseph later returned to Paris working as first assistant to Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci. He launched his first collection under his eponymous brand in New York in 2008, and a year later Carine Roitfeld, director of Vogue Paris, wore a coat he designed at the front row of a fashion show. And from there on, his popularity sky-rocketed due to his style which combines tailoring techniques and highly seductive enveloping lines.
