Balloon trend
Balloon skirts and puffed sleeves: summer fashion blows up
Voluminous cuts and an abundance of crimps and pleats are the distinctive features of the balloon style, applied to ethereal fabrics to evoke lightness at evening parties but also during the day at the office. Going against the trend of using super-light silks and voiles, Marques Almeida creates puffed sleeves with a fabric that is not very malleable: denim. The shoulders of the classic denim jacket are raised and the cuffs of Renaissance-style dresses crafted from washed-out denim are ruched. AZ Factory puffs up the volumes of the brand's tulip skirts crafted from recycled polyester for a balloon effect of bright colours, to be worn with sneakers and tights in blazing, contrasting colours. The gowns by Cecilie Bahnsen are halfway between medieval and avant-garde, a modern twist on an empire style, with a cut-out bustier and circular openings on the shoulders, to be worn with loafers and stockings.
