Tie-dye is back

Explosions of colour mark the trend that symbolises the late-sixties

The tie-dye technique, that preserves parts of the fabric from colouring, creating bursts of multiple colours or grades of the same shade, has returned to the catwalks of the Spring-Summer 2019 collections. Ganni offers it in denim with shorts and shirt-jackets to be matched with satin skirts and wide-leg trousers. Sacai’s t-shirts with interwoven ribbons on the sides are casual, but with a touch of romanticism. Msgm has chosen a multi-colour effect for denim dungarees and trench coats, whilst cotton sweaters have large jacquard roses over tie-dye. Stella McCartney has chosen pastel, almost faded, shades for her t-shirts and knits. And Prada blurs funky notes, bright green and fuchsia, for its classic, sophisticated pleated dresses.
