J. Barbour & Sons was founded in 1894 by Scotsman John Barbour, an importer of waterproofing oil for fabrics. John Barbour designed and produced waterproof clothing for outdoor work, and his waxed jackets became famous all over the country. Production expanded with his grandson Duncan, a keen motorbiker, and soon Barbour clothes were no longer confined to the countryside. For decades, their unmistakable style has attracted those around the world who love to wear quality and tradition.
